Shaun Filiatrault

A lifelong athlete, Shaun spent 10 years of his athletic career as a short-track speed skater where he competed at the Espoir level and won the Quebec Championships before retiring from the sport in 2008. Over the next few years, he dabbled in recreational marathon running and obstacle course racing. In 2017 he decided to pursue obstacle course racing more seriously and thus began his journey.

As a licensed paramedic, Shaun leveraged his knowledge of the human body’s systems while experimenting with various training styles to develop methods that consistently improved his results. Since then, he has implemented his custom training techniques to climb the obstacle racing ranks and in 2018, Shaun made the move to create his own OCR coaching business, Outlaw OCR, in order to help others accelerate their training and achieve their OCR goals.

In recent years, he placed 2nd in the 2018 North America in the 15km distance at the OCR North American Championships in the 18-24 Age Group and he ranked 7th overall in the 2021 Spartan Race Canadian National Series in the Elite Division. You can find out more about his journey on Instagram.

“I found Life Sports Gear in 2021 and had the chance to use their Torrent vest during my 2021 training season. I really enjoyed its light weight and breathability compared to other vest brands I had used. This was the vest that I used during the Spartan Race Canadian National Series events, where I placed 7th overall. I have nothing but great things to say about this product and its durability to withstand such grueling events. As the owner of a local business, it is important for me to make connections and promote other Quebec-based businesses. I want to show other athletes that they can find high quality products here at home.”
